Web Page Instructions |
|
If you create your own web page and send it to us, we will place
everything you send to us in its own directory so we don't get conflicts
between files.
The main page should be named index.html since we use an Apache web server. If you want to use server side includes (SSI) then the page should be named index.shtml. Don't use the .htm file extension. This is a Linux system. All other referenced pages should be addressed relative to the main page. All these files will be in your own directory, so subdirectories should not be necessary. Lets say you have a picture of your dog in the page and it is named dog.jpg, then your should reference this as <img src="dog.jpg"> If you are referencing other pages on the site, use an absolute address. For example, if you want to have a link to your Holie, use the full path such as href="http://www.wilgenhof.org/1979/vlakfloors/". Incidently, this shows how we organize the web pages. Vlakfloors was a first year in 1979, so he gets put in the directory /1979/vlakfloors/. This makes for a balanced tree of directories. If none of this makes sense to you, use this as a guideline: When creating the web page, make sure that all the files including images are in the same directory. Your web editor will be smart enough to do what we ask. When you save HTML files, name them xxx.html explicitly, rather than let your web editor name the files. Some Windows systems tend to name the files xxx.htm instead, which confuses Apache. Once you did all this, package all the files needed using ZIP or tar.gz and email it to webmaster@wilgenhof.org and Chris or Vlakfloors will get your page posted within a few hours. |
